Rooibos (Pro: roy bohs) is the Afrikaans word for “red bush” and is truly a one-of-a-kind herbal. Only grown in the Capetown area of South Africa, Rooibos has no caffeine, very low tannins, and is an antioxidant powerhouse. It is the perfect evening beverage, allowing you a restful night–but as strong a flavor as the time you allow it to steep. So, go for it..Rooibos won’t get bitter no matter how long you let it sit. South Africans drink it all times of day and tout its’ qualities endlessly, even putting it in bath water to soften skin, or allowing their teething babies to suck on gauze sacks filled with Rooibos. Most South Africans prefer it unblended for the earthy, deep red-brown infusion, or with milk and sugar added, as the British take tea.
